On the market for years, the electric scooter is no longer seen as just a medical necessity but a hip, lifestyle choice for many people. As obesity and life-expectancy rates rise in the United States, electric scooters have become the new alternative to walking. The appeal is obvious as the aging baby boomers are used to doing what they want, when they want and scooting makes it easy and convenient. In order to make electric scooters available to the masses, a new generation of cheaper, lighter models are now available. Marketed as active and fun, electric scooters are now being distributed by scooter companies that used to target only those needing scooters as a medical necessity. Industry giants such as Disney World and Wal-Mart have even invested in electric scooters to be made available for customer use. There has been some controversy that scooting is taking the place of walking and is actually becoming detrimental to the health of generations to come. In the meantime, the popularity of scooting has electric scooter sales on the rise.
