CPAP

CPAP is used to help people who suffer from sleep apnea. It stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, and it is a method of providing oxygen to any person who has trouble breathing properly while asleep.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a disorder that is brought on by a lack of oxygen during the sleep cycle. This is caused by an obstruction in the airway passage, and it can prevent a person from breathing for several seconds at a time. People with sleep apnea will commonly stop breathing intermittently throughout the entire night, and it will often make them snore loudly or gasp for air.

Types of Sleep Apnea

There are three primary forms of sleep apnea: obstructive, central, and mixed.

Obstructive sleep apnea occurs when the muscles inside the throat relax to the point where they literally impede the intake of oxygen. It happens most often when a person is in a deep sleep, and their body is in its most relaxed state. The lack of air will almost always awaken the person immediately, making it very difficult for them to get the proper sleep they need.

Central sleep apnea is the result of an imbalance within the brain that does not properly regulate the intake of oxygen. Normally, the brain automates the breathing process at all times, but in these cases, that part of the brain will stop working momentarily. This results in the person being unable to breathe for several seconds at a time, and it can happen both while asleep and awake.

Mixed sleep apnea is a combination of the obstructive and central disorders. It can be far more difficult to deal with and requires more advanced treatment.

Every form of sleep apnea can be treated with CPAP solutions. This is usually done with a mask or a specialized machine.

CPAP Masks

Victims of sleep apnea can find relief with a CPAP mask that covers the nasal cavity and produces a steady stream of oxygen. This helps regulate the amount of oxygen that flows through the user.s air passages. It will also improve their breathing, which in turn makes it easier for them to get the sleep they need.

There are many different styles of masks that can be worn. They come in a variety of sizes to accommodate every individual. Each type of mask is adjustable to provide a proper fit and is designed to be comfortable and unobtrusive.

CPAP Machines

Sufferers of sleep apnea may choose from several styles of CPAP machines that will give them the oxygen they need to breathe properly and get a good night.s rest. Every machine has a control panel to allow the user to determine how powerful the flow of oxygen will be, but it is generally recommended to start the machine off at a low level and increase the flow as needed.

CPAP machines can be purchased for use exclusively in the home or for travel and outdoor use. Some even come with power adapters for people who journey to other countries. They are able to be powered in a variety of ways; users can find electrical models that plug into a standard wall outlet or that run on battery power. Many of these machines also include car adapters, so they may be used while riding in any vehicle.

People with sleep apnea will have a difficult time sleeping properly and may even have trouble breathing while awake. Modern CPAP technology can be used to greatly improve the quality of life for anyone with this disorder and to ensure they receive the deep sleep their bodies require.
